Weld Symbol Tail Modification

Weld Symbol Tail Modification

Weld Symbol Tail Modification

(OP)
In the drawings I create most welds are assigned weld numbers. The annotation standard of my company is to have a hexagon type tail on the end of the weld symbol which contains the weld number. The standard "V" tail given in solidworks does not match the format I want (a hexagon not a V). I am currently inserting notes and manually placing them so they appear as a hexagon tail on the weld sumbol. This is working for me, but I would rather have the tail somehow connected to the weld symbol (ie. if I move the weld symbol the hexagon tail will follow). Any suggestions?
I am running SW 2008 SP5.0

I have attached a word document with a picture illustrating what I am talking about

RE: Weld Symbol Tail Modification

How about grouping the note and the weld symbol?  Select both the note and the symbol and then right-click and choose "group".  This will only be available if the note and the weld symbol "belong to" the same view.  If you position the weld symbol outside the drawing view and then create the note in the vicinity of the symbol then the note will actually "belong to" the sheet instead of the drawing view.  Make sure you create the note inside the view of interest and then drag it out to the weld symbol.  After grouping, the note and symbol will move as a unit.

Thanks a bunch. That really helps. I didn't know about the group feature. Is there any way I can snap to the end of the weld symbol to ensure that all notes end up in the same place?

RE: Weld Symbol Tail Modification

I know you can type in (or cut & paste) flags like <SC#-1> and <T#-1>.  There is a method (no sure where defined) to modify the standard flag notes.  You could modify a standard flag note to be a hex, then type that into your weld field, then save it as a Favorite.  Or you could push back to follow standards and make your life easier.

RE: Weld Symbol Tail Modification

Not that I know of.  You'll just have to zoom in more to get a more precision alignment.
