cable tugger power unit

(OP)
I am not a engineer, I'm a machinist by trade. I run a small family fabricating and machine shop. We are trying to finish a new building, so we can move. We are doing a lot of the work ourselves and pay as we go. We have a lot of wire to pull and have pulled some already. Mostly using a towmotor as the power source. I looked at buying a cable tugger and pricing runs from $2,000.00 to $8,000.00 (ebay to buying new). Rent is $247.00 per week. Our work schedule on the new building is to hit and miss to justify renting. So I thought I would build one. The structure, frame design, and theory of operation is straight forward. It is the power unit that I need help with.
Based on commercially available models: This is a capstan winch. It uses a rope wrapped on the pulley (capstan)to pull the wire. The pulley is approximately 3" groove dia. It turns about 8 feet per minute and is for loads up to 6,500 lbs. They have a 1-1/2 hp 1 ph gear motor and apparently (from looking at the pictures) a sprocket and chain or a meshed gear set to get the final rpm.
I would appreciate your advice or recommendations on what you would use to achieve this.
Thank you,
Tim
