HEC-RAS Modeling of nonstandard culvert

HEC-RAS Modeling of nonstandard culvert

HEC-RAS Modeling of nonstandard culvert

(OP)
We are a precast concrete producer who has developed a new 3-sided culvert structure (Stronghold Bridge Systems) to compete with Con/Span.  Unfortunately for us, Con/Span is listed by name in the pull-down menu for culvert geometry in HEC-RAS 4.0.  In order to compete effectively, we will need to determine how to appropriately model our geometry for hydraulics in HEC-RAS.

We are producing an engineering manual for distribution and would like to include strucure geometry and a procedure for hydraulic modeling, but I can't find any information on data format or even what specific data will be required.  I've been told that the HEC-RAS data files can be edited since they're just text files, but can't find any specifics.  All of the manuals provide information on importing data, but it's all specific to wateway geometry.

Personally, I have no experience with HEC-RAS (I'm a structural engineer), so I don't know if I'm making a big deal out of this or not.  If you're interested in what the new sections look like, check out the link below.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

RE: HEC-RAS Modeling of nonstandard culvert

The Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), an organization within the Institute for Water Resources, is the designated Center of Expertise for the US Army Corps of Engineers in the technical areas of surface and groundwater hydrology, river hydraulics and sediment transport, hydrologic statistics and risk analysis, reservoir system analysis, planning analysis, real-time water control management and a number of other closely associated technical subjects. HEC supports Corps field offices, headquarters, and laboratories by providing technical methods and guidance, water resources models and associated utilities, training and workshops, accomplishing research and development, and performing technical assistance and special projects. The products that are developed from these activities are for the Corps but are available to the public and may be freely downloaded from this web site.
