corrosion of monel 400 in salt refinery

corrosion of monel 400 in salt refinery

corrosion of monel 400 in salt refinery

(OP)
monel 400 is used as the base material for
our pans . would i be mistaken in thinking that a
type of hastelloy would be a better choice in corrosion
resistenc?

RE: corrosion of monel 400 in salt refinery

Hastelloy C-276 is quite superior to Monel 400, as is Hastelloy B.

RE: corrosion of monel 400 in salt refinery

I have seen AL-6XN (6% Moly Stainless) used extensively to replace alloy 400 (monel) in salt refining applications such as dryers and conveyor systems for hot salt.  It has been more resistant to the abrasion/corrosion by the salts than the alloy 400.  This would be a more cost effective alloy than a Hastelloy.

Recently such corrosion issues at a Morton Salt plant were discussed in a Stainless Steel World Magazine article http://www.stainless-steel-world.net

Rolledalloy has a valid point and you need not restrict your choice to AL-6XN, a proprietary alloy of Allegheny-Ludlum. Avesta-Polarit has a portfolio of highly corrosion resistant stainless steels, both austenitic and duplex.
