UNS N08926

UNS N08926

(OP)
While ordering a plate of UNS N08926, I noticed the following:
In QW/QB-422 of ASME IX, the material is listed only in the SB section, and nowhere in the SA section (this is normal to me...). But when I went to the ASME II, and looked into the SA240 spec, the UNS N08926 was there... One supplier corrected me for the ASME material spec saying that SA240 is not correct to refer to 08926, the other one (maybe the biggest in Europe) has already supplied - with hard stamp - the same material under SA240 UNS N08926. PMI was OK.
Is there any mistake in ASME or in my mind?
Thanks, guys...

RE: UNS N08926

No, there is no mistake for this product form. If you review SA 240, under the Scope statement, it refers to chromium, chromium-nickel and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless and heat resisting plate material. Reference to this material in SB (nonferrous) is for other wrought product forms, for example

SB 673 Pipe

RE: UNS N08926

This an alloy that will be moved to SA from SB.  It is a stainless and the largest alloy element is Fe, not Ni.  It was originally given an "N" number because it less than 50% Fe.
The other product specs are just behind SA240.  Eventually it will only appear in SA and not in SB.  This is like 904L and AL-6XN.
