Ferric Sulphate feed line problems

Ferric Sulphate feed line problems

Ferric Sulphate feed line problems

(OP)
We feed ferric sulphate thru a 1" pvc line to our water plant clarifiers. I've noticed that the line will get partially plugged after 3 or 4 years, to the point that the line is only half available .
We store the ferric sulphate in fibrglass tanks.
Could the precipitated out material in the pipe be coming from the tank?
If not then why does the line build up like this?
Does ferric sulphate normall precipitate out in the lines forming a
rather hard material? The ferric sulphate is fed neat.
Any suggestions??

RE: Ferric Sulphate feed line problems

Many users will dilute the water treatment chemicals to 5% solution strength to avoid the problem that you describe.

Thanks. We'll give it a try.

RE: Ferric Sulphate feed line problems

We have the same problem on occassions. As a routine we flush our dosing lines every 6 months to remove any build-up.
