Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

(OP)
Has anyone come in contact with manholes that they have had to coat do to a H2S problem.  I even have the riser gaskets coming out.  If so, has the material/s been tried and reviewed for more than 5 years?  I have read that some are failing after a few years.  The manhole is 21' deep and has a 48" diameter.  The water table is about 10' from the bottom.  Liner? Spray-ons?  Tensile or flexural properties more important?

RE: Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

here is a local spec that is used for new manholes but might be used for lining an older one

1. Sauereisen Sewergard Lining No. 210 with Sauereisen Underlayment No. F-120 or Sauereisen Underlayment No. F-120C

2. Sewer Shield 100 Epoxy Lining or Sewer Shield 101S Epoxy Lining with C120 calcium aluminate cement underlayment

cvg, you must be from Phoenix or Maricopa County.  That's what we always use.
It's appropriate for existing manholes, once you've chipped down to sound material, repaired any structural damage and tested the substrate.  The two that cvg mentions can be sprayed or troweled on.

RE: Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

If you working with such a deep manhole and integrity of the manhole is in question, you may be interested in a structural manhole insert rather than just a coating. You insert a FRP liner and then grout between the existing manhole and the liner.

The linked summary lists all of the suppliers of various manhole lining systems.

Suggest you contact the manufacturer for a reference list and then visit the technology that you are interested in.

RE: Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

Permaform has a spray on cementious(sp)material. go to www.trenchlessonline.com and look for the manhole repair and rehab people. They also have a form system to put inside existing mhs and then place a structural concrete liner inside the mh.

Thanks everyone.
I was looking at Raven Linings.  But, it seems that they have had problems in the pass!
Does anyone have experiences with SpectraShield or AP/M PermaForm?
Thanks Again.

RE: Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

AP/M Permaform (Johnston, IA): Permacast®, Con(mic)Shield is a good system. So is Terre Hill Concrete Products (Terre Hill, PA): MultiPlexx Liner, MultiPlexx
Layup.

bimr have you or anyone else tried these?
If so, was it on new or old manholes?
How long ago?
How have the liners/coatings held up?
Was there an H2S problem?
Anyone with experience please respond too!
Thanks.

RE: Concrete Manhole Liner H2S

We have had good experience with Sauereisen's SewerSeal, a calcium aluminate-based lining.

We have also had good experience with the Raven lining applied on top of the calcium aluminate-based lining.

We have had good experience with FRP liners as well.

These werw all rehab projects due to proeblems with H2S. Most of these projects were done 5-10 years ago and were successful projects.
