Sheet model vessel

Sheet model vessel

Sheet model vessel

(OP)
Hello, everyone,
I've had a lot of difficulties bringing in vessel assembly with the thin-wall sheet metal parts. I've tried Inventor & Pro/E to built 3D model with accuracy & export as .stp file. But when I import to Algor, then some of the sutfaces are always missing or tristed.
Can sone one shed some of the lights to me? what is the best way to model sheet metal parts?
Thanks

RE: Sheet model vessel

Not sure what you mean by "vessel"...pressure vessel...ship?  Anyway, probably the easiest way is to model it as a solid, but just do a surface mesh on the CAD file.

Not sure what the problem is with your .stp output from your CAD system, but you may want to make sure that your output resolution is higher than typical default, if you can set it.  Trimmed Surface IGES also works quite well, if you can export as IGES instead of STEP.

Are you midplane meshing?  Or surface meshing?

Can you upload one of your STEP files?

Thank you for quisk response, Garland.
I built a solid model, but can't export to Algor. I was planning surface meshing since the model is based on surface contact. But I do think the midplane mesh will be faster % easier, then have to re-model 3D, which should not be a problem, if have to.
When I save as a step file, how can I choose the higher resolution? how much will be enough?
I'd like to upload a step file to you. But if you don't mind, could I send you to your e-mail directly?
Sorry about this.
I really appreciate your help.

Karl,

Placing an e-mail address on this site is not allowed, so I'm sorry, but I won't provide my e-mail address.  Go to this site:  www.borowskiengineering.com and send an e-mail to "info".  That will reach me.

As for increasing the resolution, that would be through your CAD software, with which I am not familiar.

Garland
