GiD Pre processor (...and post??)

GiD Pre processor (...and post??)

GiD Pre processor (...and post??)

(OP)
GiD ( http://gid.cimne.upc.es/ ) is said to be your personal pre -and postprocessor, but as far as I have figured out, the only package directly downloadable is the pre processor. For the post processor to work you have to compile a package known as GiDPost ( http://gid.cimne.upc.es/support_team/gidpost.html ). Is this correct, or is this just an additional package for extra post process capabilities?

Before I buy GiD, I need to know which possibilities I have in order to solve my problems, and I have searched around for solvers. So far I have found severeal, but Elmer ( http://www.csc.fi/english/pages/elmer ) seems to have capabilities of importing GiD files in addition to be a "user friendly" and professional program.

So my question...; is this all I need in order to solve the following:
-- linear problems
-- non-linear problems
-- CFD analysis
-- assemblies (meaning contact elements etc.)

Best regards

Tommy
