Fellow Engineers,

I am using Fiberglass reinforced plastic by Arthur Kruger as my grating in my platform. I would like to ask if anyone have already used this type of grating. I am looking for its allowable deflection criteria. In our current project, We have used L/400 but it seems it is very stringent as it projects a maximum span of 600 mm.

By the chart you provided, deflection of L/400 (1.5mm) on a 600 span would be produced by a uniform loading of about 12 kPa.  Is your loading that high?

My total load is 800kg/m^2 (8kN/m^2). dead load + snow load + live load + operating pipe loads.

Then 8 kPa load would give you .98 mm deflection by the chart on a 600 span, only L/600.  So you could stretch out the supports a bit and still meet your L/400 requirement.  I assume you know how to do the calculation.  You would have to check with the manufacturer to see if that is practical.  The spans available may be determined by standard manufacturing lengths.
