32 bit install on XP 64 - will it cause any problems?

32 bit install on XP 64 - will it cause any problems?

(OP)
As the title says.  Keep reading for a more detailed explanation:

I had v5R17 64 bit working just fine on windows XP 64 bit.

Somehow, 64 bit installs of R18 and R19 have caused havoc (they hang when trying to open some parts).  Occasionally, instead of just hanging, they will exit completely when trying to load parts.

The only workaround I found was to install R19 32bit version and it opens the parts just fine.  Will it cause any problems running the 32 bit versions on a 64 bit windows install?

Thanks.

You have modified the environments for each installation so that they DO NOT share the same user settings?

definitely, that is correct.

I run 32bit R18 on XP64 with no noticeable problems. The only things is that sometimes I can't create Title blocks in drafting like I used to on my regular XP32 machine.

RE: 32 bit install on XP 64 - will it cause any problems?

One of the Catia Product papers I read stated that 32-bit Catia will operate fine on 64-bit OS, with the limitation that the CNEXT process can only address 4GB of memory (consistent with the 32-bit architecture). That's a big improvement over the ~2.8GB limit on 32-bit Windows.

A particular benefit of this arrangement is that if you need to do video capture within Catia, the whole variety of video codecs is available for the 32-bit program.

Cheers,
Mark
