Mnemonic used to identify end connectors in a harness

Mnemonic used to identify end connectors in a harness

(OP)
My question is vague but the mnemonic is real.  There is a way of speeding the process of identifying end connections in an electrical harness and I am not talking about color coding. I remember watching EE's back in the 70's using this mind calculation to quickly honing on which lead is which on the other end of harnesses and then they would verify with continuity tests.  Does anybody knows about what I am talking?

RE: Mnemonic used to identify end connectors in a harness

Such tricks might apply to a particular harness on a particular system. But I can't even imagine any sort of general technique.
