Railroad Surcharge

Railroad Surcharge

I am working on railroad embankment design. The emabnkment will support three tracks. Does anybody know how much railroad surchage is generally considered for the embankment design?

Thanks

RE: Railroad Surcharge

Check AREMA and check with the railroad company.

RE: Railroad Surcharge

In my experience, most railroads are very specific (insistent) as to the required surcharge load and pressure formula that are to be used in design.  Check with the railroad.

RE: Railroad Surcharge

another important thing is the ground borne vibration induced by the trains over this embankment.Of course we are talking about dynamic surcharge(conventional and high speed trains).

I was on vacation. I did not get chance to check the forum. I designed the emabnkment using AREMA.

Thanks again
