disabling motor thermal switch

disabling motor thermal switch

disabling motor thermal switch

(OP)
I have a new (surplus) 1 HP Dayton TEFC single phase motor that I bought off ebay to use on a wood lathe. It is a dual voltage 115/220. It has an auto reset thermal switch which I need to disable. It is a Klixon CEJ40CY switch with 3 terminals connected to the following wires: 1 = P1; 2= P2 and 3= T1. I know I have to short P1 and P2 to make the motor run but I'm not sure what to do with the T1 wire. There were only 2 contacts on the thermal disc contacting terminals 1 and 2 in NO position. Could someone tell me what to do with wire T1?
Thanks very much,

RE: disabling motor thermal switch

Hi Skip,

Just speculating, but the relay wouldn't be for switching out the start winding once current starts to drop off?  That would mean T1 is your supply and P1 and P2 are your run and start windings.

RE: disabling motor thermal switch

Woops, hit post by accident... meant to continue with option 2:

The other option is that for a reconfigurable motor (windings can be connected in series or parallel for the two different voltages).  In this case, when the windings are connected in parallel, only one winding would actually be used for heating, the other would by-pass the heating resistance.  If the relay gets to hot, it disconnects both.
