Generator installation costs

Generator installation costs

(OP)
I am setting budgetary cost for my capital needs and was wondering if there is a rule of thumb cost for installation of emergency power generators operating about 1000kw. I remember reading years ago $90/kw. It sounds to cheap for today's market.

RE: Generator installation costs

Probably more than twice that these days.

RE: Generator installation costs

I don't know what dollars you are in but we just purchased a 1MVA diesel in a 20ft container for SUS 190,000

RE: Generator installation costs

Installation costs will be directly impacted by a lot of factors, such as regulations concerning noise, exhaust emissions, fuel storage, etc.

The lowest installed cost is a modular unit with no sound attenuation and a pretty basic fuel tank.

Add louvers, sound attenuation, fuel storage alarm and management, containment and security and costs go up.

Indoor installations go up in price even quicker depending on local regulations.

Do you have air quality requirements for your standby? At 1000 kW in some areas aftertreatment may be required depending on your projected annual run time. You may also have to treat the crankcase vent emissions.

Do you have a cold climate, might need additional space heating, battery heaters, fuel heating, etc.

EGSA has soem good guidelines and an excellent handbook if you need some additional info.  Also look to your generator set vendors and ask for a copy of the Application and Installation Guidelines or Manuals to help you understand all the related systems and their costs for a standby set.

Hope that helps.
