BOM question : Different Item

BOM question : Different Item

BOM question : Different Item

(OP)
Hi All,

I have this drawing for a weldment. I have grouped all similar shape & size parts.

My question :

You will notice on the BOM that Item #1 has Qty = 4.
For some design requirement I need to drill holes one of these 4 tubes.
I need this tube with a hole to be a new item (#8) and the Item #1 should now show the Qty = 3
How can I achieve this?

Please guide me.

Thanks
C1

RE: BOM question : Different Item

There are two ways.
1. Copy the existing part and drawing with new names, replace the one instance of the part with the newly created part, modify the new part to include the holes.
2. Install the Assembly tools that come with the development tools (GO TO C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 10\SDK\Tools\Users\AssemblyTools
RUN AssemblyTools.msi).  Run the tool, 'save copy of component and replace existing component with new one', selecting your existing component.  Edit the new component.

Use method one if you already have a drawing that you would like to reuse, method two if you don't.
