Reroute feature references

Reroute feature references

Reroute feature references

(OP)
In NX5, I have a feature modeled that is sketched on one one plane and now I'd like to reroute that feature to a datum plane earlier in the model tree.  If I "Edit with Rollback" I don't get the option to select a new sketching plane.

TIA

RE: Reroute feature references

When you are in the sketch there is an icon called "Reattach". It will allow you to select an existing plane and a horizontial reference. It is under the 'Tools' pulldown I believe.

RE: Reroute feature references

I assume that you don't need to select a new plane for the sketch because ever after the reordering of the sketch the datum plane is still located before it in the tree.

If you want to pick a new sketch plane:

RMC sketch in tree > edit parameters > reattach (second icon) > specify target placement face (first icon), and select the plane

Well, that was a bit confusing but I ended up getting after about 10 tries.  Thanks...

RE: Reroute feature references

I guess I should have mentioned about the datum plane normals and direction, and the sketch direction, but I am glad it worked.

Yes, that is what I was fighting.  How the heck to you determine which side of the plane is the "normal"  In Pro/E we had one side of the plane one color and the other side another color.  It was easy to determine which side of the plane was which.

RE: Reroute feature references

What you need to do is double click on the datum plane, and then the normal arrow will show, and a dialog box will appear.
Half way down the dialog box is "plane orientation". Open that up and you will be able to reverse the plane normal.

jerry,

Yes, that I know how to do.  My question related to I cannot tell which side is which just by looking at them.

RE: Reroute feature references

depending on the way that the sketch plane was defined if you have an associative plane that you're sketching on then you may be able to edit the plane definition to redefine it as aligned with another feature. If the sketch plane is non associative then it can probably be translated. I mentioned because the dislogs for re-attaching anything are notoriously painful, and I'd have to say that I dislike using them.

Cheers
