Lost crosshairs - Autocad 2008
Lost crosshairs - Autocad 2008
(OP)
Hi
I have a problem with autocad partialy freezing up on startup. The drawing opens and everthing seems Ok but the process isnt quite complete. The command line is empty (i.e. comand: isn't shown) but I can zoom in and out of the drawing with the wheel. The crosshairs aren't shown either and the mouse pointer moves outside of the drawing window but without function (cant close the session).
It seems to happen with various drawings so not drawing specific.
Can you help?

Is it happening when you have multiple AutoCAD drawings open or is it just one file?
Do you have other programs running in the background?
What OS are you on?
How big are the files you're opening?
What kind of machine are you running? Disksize, RAM etc.
Let us know.

I have to use taskmanager but it happen with just one drawing open (or more).
Other programmes are open.
OS is XP.
Files are normal size, 400kb with xrefs slightly bigger.
Loads of disk space and 3gb ram.

did you try the repair installation?

Okay, you may try the obvious, close any running programs, but also, make sure your swap file size is set to 3 times the amount of ram you have, I always make the initial/minimum size the same as the final/maximum size, this cuts down on disk fragmentation.
The other thing I do, is make a directory right underneath my AutoCAD install directory called AcadTemp. I point all of AutoCAD's temporary files to this folder, including Xrefs. This eliminates bumping heads with the OS when AutoCAD swaps files. Don't forget to keep your anti-virus software out of the AcadTemp folder - this can cause big crashes.
This is about the best you can do, and you may need to do the repair installation as Lothar suggests.
