Metal Foam Testing

Metal Foam Testing

(OP)
Does anyone know of any ASTM standards or test methods to determine the compressive or crushing strength of rigid foams using a punch technique?

RE: Metal Foam Testing

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but that surprises me because rigid foams are used in auto bumpers.

RE: Metal Foam Testing

I've never seen a compressive strength  Per SE. We use a lot of metal filters, both the foam type and metals fiber mesh. Our routine test is just a flow rate and bobble point with air. We use the vendors number for the strength, mainly the crush point. We verify this my measuring the delta P while running and examination before and after cleaning.

Here is a little information that might be of help with  your requirements. Look at crush strength.
