Geometric tolerances in parts - not drawings!
Geometric tolerances in parts - not drawings!
(OP)
Hello
Does anybody have a lot of expereince placing geometric tolerances and datums in parts - as opposed to drawings. This functionality was very easy to add in Pro/ENGINEER.
I'm using SolidWorks 2007, but should move to 2009 quite soon, so perhaps it's possible to do stuff in 2009 that I can't do now?
Firstly, if I define a plane as a datum and add the symbol in the part, I can't seem to move the datum symbol along the plane on the drawing sheet - any ideas?
I have successfully added "form" geometric tolerances in the part, and they show okay on the drawing and can be moved. However, if I want to add a positional tolerance in the part, I can't seem to add it to a dimension, ony a surface - any ideas.
Thanks in advance
Dave

With your discussions i think maybe you add that tolerances in the part ambient because in this session you should define a plane to view orientation go to feature manager tree and find your defined plane and turn it to on
but if you want to add the tolerances in the drawing ambient; it's too simple; just select the edges to preparing Geometrical tolerance and select DIM's and then go to feature manager tree then put the dimensional tolerances in the tolerance/Precision list box
If you add all of tolerances in the part ambient you can import all of them by "Model Item" tab in annotation menu bar.
