REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

(OP)
Could you explain the the effect of reducing the safety valve set pressure?
Could it result in damaging the Safety Valve Seat?
Thanks a lot

RE: REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

There are spring ranges for safety valves.  If you are within the spring range, I don't think there will be a problem.  However this must be done AND TESTED is an ASME facility and then re-stamped.

RE: REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

That's correct. You will need the supporting paperwork (RSRD) as well as a properly labeled tag that matches the RSRD.

RE: REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

Be careful not to reduce the safety valve set pressure so that it is very close to the operating pressure, otherwise it could result in "chattering" and potential damage to safety valve.

RE: REDUCING SAFETY VALVE SETTING PRESSURE?

I totally agree with KenA. Usually the maintenance contractor for the safety valves will guarantee no chattering for up to 90% of the set pressure.
If your operating pressure is above 90% of the set pressure, the contractor won't be able to help if you see chattering.

Yes. This could result in excessive opening and closing of the valve in service. Also, this must be done by a VR stamp holder.

Yes.

powering.....

Correct terminology and word usage is important in these fora..

The use of the term "safety valve" assumes that you are refering to a code stamped device on a boiler.

Is that true...?

In what world location is this valve ???
