Structural Materials of Construction for -45¦C
Structural Materials of Construction for -45¦C
(OP)
All vessel and attachments are required to design to -45 ºC
For vessel support legs (18" beam), Ladder and Platform, there are no impact tested structural materials available. How to design to -45ºC?
One thought is to design to very lower stress level, less than 40% allowable stress. Then refer to ASME VIII-1 FIG. UCS-66.1M get >50 ºC reduction in Minimum Design Temperature. But in this way, beam size will increase a lot.
Is there any way to design it?

For 18" beams, you could perhaps fab them out of plate. Ditto with ladder stringers.

JStephen, he doesn't have to apply this rule (client rule) to non-structural application such as ladder stringers. only to stuff like skirt, saddle, pipe support clips, lifting lugs.
