Structural Materials of Construction for -45¦C

Structural Materials of Construction for -45¦C

(OP)
All vessel and attachments are required to design to -45 ºC

For vessel support legs (18" beam), Ladder and Platform, there are no impact tested structural materials available. How to design to -45ºC?

One thought is to design to very lower stress level, less than 40% allowable stress. Then refer to ASME VIII-1 FIG. UCS-66.1M get >50 ºC reduction in Minimum Design Temperature. But in this way, beam size will increase a lot.

Is there any way to design it?

RE: Structural Materials of Construction for -45¦C

The attachments beyond the shell wouldn't necessarily need to be qualified in the same way that the vessel itself is- you might research AISC or similar standards for requirements, rather than ASME.

For 18" beams, you could perhaps fab them out of plate.  Ditto with ladder stringers.

for -45°C toughness, we've made angles from SA-516-70N plate; same stuff for the vessels shell.

JStephen, he doesn't have to apply this rule (client rule) to non-structural application such as ladder stringers.  only to stuff like skirt, saddle, pipe support clips, lifting lugs.
