AWS Joint Configuration

AWS Joint Configuration

AWS Joint Configuration

(OP)
Currently working for a particular difficult Client and would appreciate a second opinion on the following
If a weld procedure is qualified in accordance with AWS D1.1 Section 4 on Pipe with a Single Bevel Joint Configuration, then in accordance with AWS Table 4.5 Section 30 does this give approval to weld plate with a double bevel joint configuration?

RE: AWS Joint Configuration

In general the answer is yes. However, you didn't tell us the "whole story".

You should be qualified for any prequalified joint listed in clause 3 (see figures 3.3 and 3.4. That includes both PJP, CJP, and fillet welds.

Again, we don't know all the details of how you qualified the initial joint, nor all the details of the joint configuration, was backing used, was back gouging involved, etc.

Best regards - Al
