Intrepting Result from a Charpy Test
Intrepting Result from a Charpy Test
(OP)
Good Afternoon all,
I have a query about results from 2 no. Charpy Tests. The results were 31 & 30 joules (average) and I wonder if there were reference tables helping me to get a feel for the type of steel I was dealing with.
Any help would be appreciated.

Why don't you send one of the Charpy impact test samples (broken piece) to a metallurgy/materials test lab that can perform a chemical analysis or if the Charpy impact test was performed by a metallurgical lab have them do this for you? The cost should be under $100.00 USD and will give you the specific information you need.

If you have the pieces perform an PMI-Test or a chemical analysis by spectroscopy its quite cheap and you can exactly say what kind of grade you have!
