Standard for distance of receiver to open burner

Standard for distance of receiver to open burner

Standard for distance of receiver to open burner

(OP)
Hi guys,

I'm facing a problem with regards to location of receiver. Project team says that the location of new receiver is safe enough (which is next to an open burner - a hot oil heater) but the operation team says otherwise. Therefore, could anyone help me by guiding me to which standard or code that is available that will solve the problem??

TQ

RE: Standard for distance of receiver to open burner

see API RP 500

"Pumping systems account for nearly 20% of the world's energy used by electric motors and 25% to 50% of the total electrical energy usage in certain industrial facilities." - DOE statistic  (Note: Make that 99.99% for pipeline companies) http://virtualpipeline.spaces.live.com/

Also, listen to operations.  If operators or technicians don't like it, it will never work.

RE: Standard for distance of receiver to open burner

RP 500 is all about electrical stuff.  A blowdown into an open burner is another issue.

I had a boss once who said "no one can make a bad idea work but anyone can make a good idea fail".  JLSeagull has it right, if the operators don't like it then it is a doomed concept.  The Project Team really shouldn't get a vote since most (or all) of them will have moved on to the next project by the time the the first pig is run.

Can you rotate the closure end to get it pointed in a better direction?

David

Thx for the advice.

zdas04,

The wind direction is always towards the burner. it is still the best way to shift the location.

JLSeagull,
Yes, the entire operation team says no to that and they are dead not comfortable with that design.
