Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

(OP)
Our Senior Structural guy is not available.  I understand how to design a splice for a tension chord of a truss.  How is the splice designed for the compression chord.

RE: Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

I would take this to be a simpler connection the two ends should bear directly against each other and transmit the compressoin forces. Your splice will be holding the two members securely in place.

RE: Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

Make it the same in case of uplift stress reversal. (tension goes top and compression goes to bottom)

RE: Truss Compression Chord Splice Connection

I think there may be an AISC requirement for designing the compression splice for 50% of tension or some such. Can't remember off the top of my head.
