Video Card Driver Question

Video Card Driver Question

Video Card Driver Question

(OP)
If this has been covered previously, my apologies. I searched and did not come up with anything specific to this question.

I'm running a Dell Precision 490 with an nVidia Quadro FX 3450/4000 (that's what it says under device manager). I'd like to get the correct SW driver installed, but on the SW site they list a driver for the 3450, and another driver for the 4000. How do I determine which one to use?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Video Card Driver Question

Determine which card you have.  If you can get your machine's serial number you can probably look it up on the Dell site.  Otherwise, you may have to crack the case.

RE: Video Card Driver Question

Thanks for the replies. I always chose nVidia from the options list. If I choose the Dell option I only receive drivers for the 3450 (under Precision 490). I'm assuming that's the card I have, but I think I'll do what handleman is suggesting and crack the case to make sure.

Thanks for the replies.

RE: Video Card Driver Question

No matter which card you have, if you have a Dell you will want to use the driver from the Dell list, not the nVidia list. It does make a difference.

RE: Video Card Driver Question

Have you tried "dxdiag" in the Start/Run? You may get the card info that way.

RE: Video Card Driver Question

I had never used dxdiag. Just ran it and it gives the same info as the device manager: nVidia Quadro FX 3450/4000.

This is the first time I've had a video card with a '/' in the model number.

It's a 3450, as confirmed by Dell. I appreciate the link too...that answered the question, but I had to double check. Thanks to all who responded.
