Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
(OP)
If anyone is running Vista x64 with an nVidia Quadro FX570 grapics card, and you have a "SolidWorks" setting, would you mind posting a screen shot of the settings being used by the nVidia card.
It has a "Dassault Systeme CATIA - Compatible" setting, but not the expected "SolidWorks" or "Dassault Systeme Solidworks" setting.

The profiles are stored in nvwsapps.xml, you can replace yours I suppose. Been a while since I've done that tough.

I've never messed with that file before. Any tips or advice on things to do ... or not to do?

The only difference I can see is the last line regarding multi-monitors.
RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
Remind me about this next week if I do not get back with you. My new system I am building this weekend will have Vista x64 and the FX570.
Will let you know after I build the computer.

Did you downgrade to this driver by any chance?

RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
Stefan, ... Not sure I understand. Are you saying that I should change the values in the last line of the SolidWorks section
CODE
The code I posted is taken from the nvwsapps.xml file of the x64 system I'm having problems with.
Do you mean the latest driver and the official driver both have "Value="0x00000002" for the multi_monitor line?
Would that affect the nVidia panel list from displaying the Dassault Systemes SolidWorks profile?
BTW, the x64 system is only single monitor.
RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
I included the expanded one from the official driver in my first reply. No modifications made, straight from the official SW approved Vista64 driver.
I don't know how Nvidia's error handling works, but it could be the driver just skips profiles with unsupported values (eg. your multimonitor value), in any case it's worth a shot.

RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
I used the approved driver (7.15.11.7551) from the SW site and the latest non-beta driver from nVidia. Did four clean un-installs and re-installs with AV paused, disabled and finally completely removed ... no change. The "Dassault Systemes SolidWorks" profile did not become available. Strange thing is, the nvwsapps.xml file always showed the SW proifle.
Anyway, I may have found at least part of the problem. The CATIA and general 3D App profiles I had been using, had the multi-monitor setting enabled. I've switched it to OFF and it appeared to have made a big difference in speed of loading SW (from ~3mins to less than 1 min). I didn't have time to stay and test stability and performance. The user of that machine can do that on Monday. I've had my fill of computer and software and user problems for this week.
RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
It is entirely possible that there is no profile for SW anymore with the a current SW approved video driver. Not all the approved nvidia driver need this anymore.
The way you can tell is on the Approved Video Card List, in the icon column on the right, there is no red SW cube. this icon means that there will not be a SolidWorks profile in the video card settings.
This is the case for the Nvidia drivers for SW2008 & SW2009 for the FX570.

RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
Yeah, I had read that elsewhere. As Stefan posted above though, the profiles are included in the nvwsapps.xml file, but I guess that could just be a hangover from previous requirements. I should know more on Monday whether the most recent changes were effective.
How is your new computer shaping up?
RE: Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings
My first tests with the punch holder at stock settings (no over clock) are 57-58 seconds. It is the same rebuild time with and without hyper-threading enabled.
I forgot the password to set-up my VPN connection to the license server at work so I can't install PhotoView 360 yet. That is where I really want to test out the performance of the Core i7's 4 cores and 8 threads with hyper threading enabled.
I am a happy camper so far....
