I'm a complete newbie to CAD CAM though I've been working with 2 D CAD programs before.

I got Alibre Design Xpress recently, the 30 day evaluation but I can't figure out how to copy and paste objects?

This is what I want to do:

Make an extruded square and then put it together with an identical. I thaught it would be as simple as mark the object,
hit "copy" and then "paste" it. But it seems like it's not. Is this a limitation to the 30 day trial version?

Have you gone through the tutorials?  Is this your first 3D CAD application?

There really is no copy-paste functionality in parametric CAD modelers.  Any of them.  Granted, some have a similar type of function by use of feature libraries (even temporary ones created by using a copy-paste workflow), but otherwise you will have to use actual features to make the copy:
Copy
Pattern
Mirror
Sketch Pattern
