NX5 Shaded views

NX5 Shaded views

NX5 Shaded views

(OP)
I have been playing around with shaded views on drawings, and have run into an issue.  the top down view in modeling doesn't match the top shaded view in drafting.  I have read in the documentation that all shaded settings available in modeling are inherited by shaded geometry in member views.  Is there a way to change the lighting in drafting?

RE: NX5 Shaded views

Lights are not saved a per view basis.  The best that you can do is while in Drafting, turn OFF the display of the Drawing, set the lighting on the displayed 'model' view using the Basic Lighting options and then return to the Drawing display.  Now all of the shaded views will be displayed based on the lights set up while the drawing was NOT displayed.  That's about the best you have for controlling the lights in the shaded views on your Drawing.

I've tried adjusting the lights with the drawing display off.  I get an image that I like, and when I turn the sheet back on, it doesn't have the same appearance.

I tried that as well, but no luck.  It seems to be tied to the ambient light setting, if I have ambient light turned on, or off.

Any idea on why this wont accept lighting using 4 lights, and no ambient light?

RE: NX5 Shaded views

I'm not sure how it really works but the common behaviour of views added to drawings is that once you add a view based on the top view to a drawing what you have is a copy not necessarily the same as what you see once you're back in model space. I would set up a view as you like it and save the view, or the camera if you like in more up to date parlance. Then I would add a view yo the drawing based on that saved one. Afterwards I would expect that view to stay lit and oriented as it was added in perpetuity. In the past it has not been possible to adjust the viewpoint orientation of any ordinary wireframe view after it was added to a drawing, but perspective and rotation in the plane of view could be changed. In the same way the lights that can be set for drawing views seem to be rather rudimentary and not inherited from the model space settings. Working with NX-5 you either have a two sided light or you don't.

Some of what is posted depending on the wording could either indicate differences in NX-6 or ambiguity about what you're expectations about drawing views might include.

I hope somebody either agrees or corrects me on this matter as I found the specifics confusing and have never experienced much trouble with shaded views probably because my expectaions are moderate?

Cheers

Hudson
