Fire Safe SDV
Fire Safe SDV
(OP)
Hi all,
This site has been remarkable. All of you out there helping others are just wonderful people.
Help me with this one; can't seem to find the relevant codes/standards.
For LPG storage areas, the SDVs are typically specED as fire safe valves.
Would there be a requirement for for kerosine, diesel SDVs?
SDV= shut down valves/isolation valves
Thanks...

RE: Fire Safe SDV
Generally no, but as safety always is a 'total concept' one could perhaps find applications where the total application had several purposes and was composed of several pipelines/apparatus for different use and/or critical uses near more normal lines and all would be given an overall general demand that 'all valves should be firesafe or of firesafe design'.
This is always up to local authorities to decide.
RE: Fire Safe SDV
These are general fire testing standards for 'any' application where the valve must isolate a potentially volatile media. Most 'certified fire tested' valves can be used for ESD,SDV and are regularly.
I have worked on standard valves which were fitted on crude oil, LPG, LNG, natural gas, petroleum, diesel etc etc all spec'd with the above certification requirements. 90% of which were shutdown valves.
