Where can I find design loads for members of a scissor truss?

I plan to use a truss made of welded 2" square tubing with an 8:12 pitch over 4:12 spanning 24 feet. Planned wall thickness for the tubing is .120 and I need to figure out what this will support.

This is a garage roof with a monorail for a 1 ton hoist at the centerline.

Call your local Building Department for Live loads and then add in the dead loads.

Sounds like you might be quite new to this??

I must not have made myself clear. I'm looking for the compression and tension design stresses for each member of the truss.

Live and dead loads are simple to figure even for a newcomer. I'm new to this forum but I've been around 68 years.

Do you know how to solve for the truss forces using a Maxwell Diagram?

no, but I'll look that up.

Thanks!

RE: scissor truss design

Maxwell diagrams are quite good and easy...  You could also do a FBD at each joint starting at the heel.  A bit more accurate but more time consuming..

My mind is pretty set on the design of the truss for aesthetic purposes. I need to figure out what it will support so I'll know if I need one or a dozen.

Thanks!

FastFrame was a free program to analyze
two dimensional trusses pinned connections.
Rigidity needs to be considered at joints though.
