34.5 KV Breaker, Outdoor or Indoor??

34.5 KV Breaker, Outdoor or Indoor??

34.5 KV Breaker, Outdoor or Indoor??

(OP)
Hi all:

I am doing a design for a 13.8 KV Substation.

There are six incoming lines in 13.8 KV. Two of those incoming lines will come from 34.5/13.8 KV XRF's. Besides there are 20 outgoing lines in 13.8 KV.

I want some suggestion about what kind of 34.5 KV breaker i should use: outdoor (beside the 34.5/13.8 KV XFR), or indoor (inside the switchgear room in a 34.5 KV GIS switchgear)??.

Thanks in advance

RE: 34.5 KV Breaker, Outdoor or Indoor??

Hi Okpower.
From my point of view isn't technical issue.
Price and place play here only.
Im usually prefer indoor installation.
34.5kV GIS or AIS is also price issue.
Of coutse you have take in account cables, installation, protection and metering cubicles, etc.

Best Regards.
Slava

RE: 34.5 KV Breaker, Outdoor or Indoor??

One of the biggest issues on indoor switchgear at 34.5kv is the BIL level. So many companies accept equipment at 150kv BIL and have problems, where 200kv BIL devices don't have as many problems.

It is very difficult to find switchgear for 200kv BIL and Arc resistant as we require. Therefore we don't use switchgear at 34.5kv.
