ANSYS beam to shell delfection

ANSYS beam to shell delfection

ANSYS beam to shell delfection

(OP)
I have beam elements intersecting a shell structure (xy plane) parallel to the z axis that are giving some rather large deflections, such as 3-4 times the length of the beam element.  the beams use the same nodes from the shell, and are for whatever reason shooting out to extreme deflections.  i have understood the connection method to be correct, as the rest of the model behaves as anticipated, and several test cases indicate the delfections are accurate.  Would rotational constraints be needed to enforce the connection (welded), and what would be the impact on the shell in terms of reactions?
