determining equivalent stress and strain

determining equivalent stress and strain

determining equivalent stress and strain

(OP)
I have a structure which is being uniaxially compressed.
I can get the nodal stress and strains, but wondered if there was a way I could find the apparent/equivalent stress and strain of the whole structure.
I was told this would be the summed average of the nodal stress in the component(ie Stress(z) = summed avg of all nodal Stress(z))
Is there a way I can find the average of the nodal component stresses??
I tried creating a do loop to sum and average the component stress, but it doesn't seem to like my do loop so I'm looking for alternatives.
