Appearances of Multiple Parts

Appearances of Multiple Parts

Appearances of Multiple Parts

(OP)
I think I'm losing my mind today, and probably not just because I'm at work.

Here's my (main) issue: Imagine you have an assembly that has multiple instances of one component (for simplicity's sake, let's say it's a cube).  Now let's say I want to make Face 1 of Cube 1 blue plastic and Face 1 of Cube 2 red plastic.  It doesn't seem like it is possible now, but I could have sworn that I've done this in the past.

Was there a regression or do I need to quit drinking on the job?

RE: Appearances of Multiple Parts

The only way this is possible is to create different "cube" configurations (one for red face, one for blue face) and apply the appearance at the part level to the different configs.  Then in the assembly reference the correct part configs per instance of the "cube".

I would have done it the same way in the past.

Yeah, I thought about configs or even saving out different parts, but I could have sworn that this functionality was available in the past.  Guess the old memory ain't what she used to be.  Unfortunately for this assy, there are ~25 instances of this part, and I don't feel like fighting a dozen configs to get the faces to look pretty.  Maybe an ER is in order...

RE: Appearances of Multiple Parts

If I understand your question correctly, all you have to do is change the color of the part in the assembly.  The color will not be associated with the actual part file, but for that assembly, you will have the unique colors.

No, that's not it.  My VAR finally got back to me and confirmed what Rob and I were saying earlier.  The only way to have the same face be different appearances is to control it with configurations.
