SAFETY VALVE

SAFETY VALVE

SAFETY VALVE

(OP)
As per API-520, the maximum allowable accumulation is 10% of MAWP for non-fire case & 21% of MAWP for fire case. Normally with fire, the metal temperature will increase & reduce the mechanical strength of metal.

Why the % accumulation will increase for 10% to 21% for fire case?

RE: SAFETY VALVE

Perhaps is safer to design a system to withstand 21% overpressure, rather than 10% only, right?
cheers,
