I am trying to model a composite bonded assembly with core in the middle of two skins and solid laminate around the periphery. Do I need to use just shell 91 / 99 in ANSYS or some sort of solid + shell element mix to allow for the laminate. Thanks

Depends what the purpose of your analysis/FEM is.  Both methods can be used; there are +'s and -'s to both.  Please provide more detail on what you are trying to accomplish.

I am modeling the assembly to analyze the displacement and stress points from a differential pressure loading condition. The panel consists of an under-laminate / core / over-laminate construction and the two laminates converge for solid laminate at the periphery. There are also 10-15 holes the entire way through the panel from front to back and these areas are of interest also. I do not know how to handle the area where the core ends and solid laminate begins.
