Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

(OP)
Hey,

I have to create about 80 of these parts with a few different dimensions, and I need to change the text on each one.

I can't seem to get the text value in a design table.. Does anyone know a trick or anything?

OR can I have it link to a dimension in the model (the radius of the curve)

RE: Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

Unfortunately, I have not found any way to link sketch text to anything, be it custom properties, equations, dimensions, notes, design tables, etc.  If you really need it to update parametrically then you will need a macro feature.

Damn.. thats too bad..guess I better just suck it up and do all 80 parts manually :(

I have no idea how to write macros.....

RE: Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

You could use configurations where the suppression state of the sketch-text is controlled by a DT.

cheers

yeah, thats what I just started to try.. I think its going to be the best way to do this

RE: Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

This has come up a few times.  I wish I had the time to write some sort of macro feature that would make it sort of easy to parametrically control the text.  It would still be sort of complicated, but I think it could be done.  The macro feature would read a certain custom property (or properties) and change the text accordingly.  To make it easy for non-programmers to generate whatever sort of text string they wanted, the custom property would be controlled by a design table.

is there any way to duplicate the sketch of the text and have it maintain the same constraints I have set?

if i just copy and paste I lose everything

RE: Changing Text via dimension or Design Table

Someone here or at the SW forum came up with an alternative solution, but I can't find the details.

Basically, they created a sketch which had all the text variations in a column. Each set of adjacent text was spaced sufficiently to clear the model. The sketch position was controlled by a DT which was used to shift the sketch text into position.

cheers

CorBlimeyLimey,

That trick worked great!! thanks man

Saved me alot of time :)
