Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

I need code reference for dead + live load deflection to be not greater than L/240 as per Canadian Code.
For concrete it is Table 9.3 CSA A23.3-04, under 9.8.5.3
but looking as per steel for floor area in question.

RE: Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

The deflection limits for the Canadian steel code are in the Steel Handbook on page 1-134.

Hi engn555

Is it showing dead plus live shall not be more than 240.

RE: Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

Isn't that what you were looking for?

RE: Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

(OP)
no it gives separately for dead and live, not for combined dead+live limit.

RE: Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

The CWC Wood Design Manual (pg 15) gives a max deflection of L/180 for total load, and it references CSA O86.
Dont know if you need something specific to steel.
Ultimately, most deflection limits are actually just recommedations anyway, so you will not find a "code based limit" per se.
If you read clause 6.3.1.1 of the steel book, it says "see Appendix D for recommended values for deflection".

RE: Reference as per Canadian Code for total deflection L/240

Appendix D does not give limit for dead + live .
Actually that number is important from a point of view if you have finishes above floor, it prevent it due to excessive deflections. That number might be our company derived, but i need specifically for concrete deck on steel beams/joists.

Anyway I found it. It is Commentry D, Table D-1 of NBC 2005 at Page D-2.

Also, I believe it gives the reccommendations based on the flexibility of the material being supported.

Yes, we have a case as a mall terrazo floor above composite deck.
