Chemical addition in refining

Chemical addition in refining

Chemical addition in refining

(OP)
How and what kind of chemical injection is done in refineries?  Is the amount added measured?  What are the problems with chemical addition systems?

Thank you in advance!

RE: Chemical addition in refining

What unit in a refinery?  Refineries include boilers and cooling towers.  Are you only interested in the hydrocarbon streams?

Chemicals include corrosion inhibitors, anti-foam additives etc.  Often the flow rate is small and set by a PD pump instead of measured.  However, Coriolis meters also measure injection rates and totals.

I was primarily interested in hydrocarbon streams.  Any maintenance issues with the PD pumps over or under injecting?  Is there a controller on the chemical addition, since you are using a Coriolis meter?

I haven't worked on boilers or cooling towers much so any information there will be an education for me.
