Alternatives to a Reflux splitter?
Alternatives to a Reflux splitter?
(OP)
I need a poor man's approach to convert a stripping column to one with a stage of rectification. It is a semi-continuous column and the condenser is not above the top of the top of the tower. Reflux is .4 cum per hr.
I am considering using a reflux splitter and a diaphragm pump, allowing the pump to run dry at times.
I would appreciate feedback on pro's and cons, comments on vendors, and low cost alternatives. The equipment will run 24/7 for ~ 4 mo a year.

RE: Alternatives to a Reflux splitter?
Reflux splitter will only serve the purpose of maintaining desired reflux ratio, and simplify the system up to certain extent.
Have you checked (simulated, perhaps?) hydraulic capacity and mass transfer efficiency of existing tower internals for new operating conditions?
Running the tower in batch mode is generally not a problem. What should be addressed in your project are those items listed above.
Good luck,
