what is the value of overall heat transfer coeffient of water - glycol

what is the value of overall heat transfer coeffient of water - glycol

what is the value of overall heat transfer coeffient of water - glycol

(OP)
I need to design a heat exchanger for cooling system to cool glycol tank at 45 deg.c to 20 deg.c by chilled water
so i need to know what is the overall heat transfer coeffient (U value), and what is the specific heat of glycol and its desity.
The tank has 100 percent glycol.
Chiller Capacity is 50 TR.

Thank you very much for your attention.

RE: what is the value of overall heat transfer coeffient of water - glycol

Have you tried the NIST website? http://webbook.nist.gov/

However, the overall "U" for your heat exchanger is something you're going to need to figure out as it depends on factors that you haven't given us.

RE: what is the value of overall heat transfer coeffient of water - glycol

This depends on the accuracy you require.  Some general or 'typical' heat transfer coefficients for water/ethylene glycol or water/propylene glycol are available in manufacturers literature.  This will give you a ballpark estimate of the surface area required.  Many other factors such as velocity, materials of construction and type of heat exchanger will be necessary to get a more accurate coefficient.  I suggest approaching a manufacturer and letting them size the heat exchanger.
