NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

(OP)
I've been playing with NX6 assemblies and found that I couldn't get 2 components to mate properly.  On investigation, I found that there is a tolerance for whether 2 lines are parallel, and another for whether 2 lines/entities are adjacent.  Out of the box, the angular tolerance seems to be set to 1.733e-010 degrees, and the distance tolerance is set to 1e-5.  Aren't these a bit tight?  I backed off to a distance tolerance of 1e-3 and an angular tolerance of 1e-2 and things now work OK.

RE: NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

Why are you asking this question?  We gave you the option to edit the tolerances and you have and now it works.  If we had not given you the option to edit them, then your 'complaint' about the default values of the tolerances would be justified, but since we have, just accept it.

Yes, I accept your comment, John, but there are something like 10,000 default settings to monitor.  Having something so tight as a default seems a little over the top, given default STEP tolerances of 0,0254mm and modelling angular default tolerances of 0.5 of a degree.

RE: NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

scotty7,
It's been my experience that NX's out-of-box tolerances actually the same as what you mention the default STEP tolerances are...  you sure the really tight tol's you mention weren't actually custom-set?

RE: NX6 Default Assembly Constraint Tolerances

The box I found this on is a local install, not networked, so on the face of it any changes made can only be made by me, and I didn't even know this existed until I fell over the problem.  It was installed by Siemens personnel.  The other standalone is set the same, and checking with one of our Siemens contacts, it's set the same on his laptop too.  So it seems that the default install is really tight, and one to watch for if not assembling strictly rectilinear objects.
