Induction Generators

Induction Generators

(OP)
Hi all,

I am trying to fit a turbine for a tidal application. To be honest I really know very little about induction generators and how they work. I'm sure that they are geared to turn up the RPM's to produce optimum power. Does anyone have any web sites I could read that would increase my knowledge about these generators?

Thanks

RE: Induction Generators

Any textbook on electrical machines will cover basics of induction generators.  The basics are the same for induction motors or induction generator.

RE: Induction Generators

Almost any induction motor becomes an induction generator when driven above its synchronous speed.
A 1750 RPM motor has a synchronous speed of 1800 RPM. When connected to the grid and driven above 1800 RPM it becomes an induction generator and supplies energy to the grid.

RE: Induction Generators

This site is about wind turbines and induction generators: http://www.windpower.org/en/tour/wtrb/async.htm

It is very basic. More details can be found here: http://www.microhydropower.com/staffpubs/staff4.htm

There are also sites where theory and simulink or other MatLab models are discussed. Just google on!
