Rotating a drawing view

Rotating a drawing view

Rotating a drawing view

(OP)
I have not had any luck looking this up in help or here, but I know it can be done because I have done it before.  I cannot remember how to rotate a drawing view when inserting a model view.  When in a drawing, I have a rectangular shape, when SW brings in the shape it wants to put the long side across the page.  I want the long side going up and down the page.

Thank you for your time and help,

RE: Rotating a drawing view

You have to do it after placing the view.  Right-click it and choose "Rotate View" from the "Zoom/Pan/Rotate" submenu.

RE: Rotating a drawing view

I just keep projecting views until I get the one I want, then delete the others.  In multi-sheet drawings (like 12-15 shts) I seem to recall having trouble with simple rotated views being used, but this was probably back on SW00.

MadMango,
That is how I use to do it until I found out about handleman's method.  Of course when I have not used that feature in a while I forgot and needed a refresher.

The problem I think you might be having is if the views have any children they will rotate as well (if check box is checked when rotating the parent view).  Luckily I only am only doing the rotating on the initial view and it is done before any other views are created.  It takes about 3-4 clicks to rotate the view via handleman's method.  It would take me 10-12 via the method you are using.

RE: Rotating a drawing view

If I need a view that is not "standard", I orient the view in the model and use "Current Model View" when inserting the view.  This is more precise than rotating a view if you have something to you need as a horizontal or vertical datum that is not square with the standard views.

Named views are also good.

RE: Rotating a drawing view

That's German for "View Rotate".
