LEED Certification

LEED Certification

LEED Certification

(OP)
In this not so booming economy, there is still some hope for the construction industry. I am currently working on a project which will take me through the end of next year. I am the field office engineer on this project. My background is Civil Engg/Const. Management (I do not have any design background). I am looking to enhance my career and would like to know if I should get LEED certification. Can anyone give me advice on how it has helped them. Thanks.

RE: LEED Certification

It probably would help you.

I work on the design side and deal with Leed in a peripheral way.  We have Leed specialist engineers for the hard stuff.

We can design the Leed but if the contractors and the construction people are not up to speed with it, you can lose a lot of points and not receive the level of certification that the building was designed to achieve.

Being knowledgeable on the construction side would help this immensely.

RE: LEED Certification

Get it (regardless of whether or not you learn anything), there is a lot of stuff in LEED that is related to procurement and procedures used during construction.  Having LEED on your resume will show that you are aware of 'green' issues, and despite the economy, this is still a growing trend in construction.

The bottom line is, you become more marketable as a person.
