SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

(OP)
Has anyone received there SW 09 DVD's yet?  I only ask because if IT gets ahold of my DVD's I will never see them so what to keep an eye out for them.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Once they are relased, not everyone gets them at the same time. You can call your VAR and ask if they were  mailed yet.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I have not received mine yet. You can always download it through the Solidworks customer portal though if you'd like it now. I have tested 2009 again 2008 and it is amazing! It processes so much faster. When I ran a benchmark with 2008 it took 180 seconds and with 2009 it took 138 seconds. Incredible, just by changing versions. Too bad none of our customers have switched to 2009 yet.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I was told mine was about to or being shipped.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

VAR told me that shipping would start during the first week of October, but I'm still waiting.

cheers

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Same here.  Still waiting.  My VAR said that they were to start shipping in Oct., and they also said that the release schedule goes from east to west.  So you east-coasters should have them in hand by now.  I haven't been able to confirm the release schedule with anyone at SW.  Can anyone back up my VAR's nonsense?

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I was at the 2009 roll out yesterday in Cambridge Ontario and our VAR said we will have them by mid Nov.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

(OP)
My VAR says they should arrive any day now.  I have done the install from the down load but when I go to create the installation image I would prefer to run it from the DVD.  I do not have logical reason for this other than it will make me feel a little better to install it from the DVD.

The other issue I have is the temp license file expires in 8 days and I have not heard anything about when I will get our ligitimate license file.  All the users keep emailing me about the license expiring, because of the stupid dialog box that pops up.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

None here, either.  My VAR said the shipper SW was using is having issues in delivering things, so they're switching shipping companies--might be a while for something like that to get completed...

Just that saying there are shipping errors seems like somebody's blowing smoke is all...and maybe Theo needs a bridge?

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Ha!  No, in having experience with this shipping company loused up several times in the last month myself, I'd say SW is truly facing non-deliveries as a result of these guys (as they said).  We might soon see the disappearance of a large shipping company.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

My normal issues are that SW sends stuff to an address I had three or four years ago.  I call to update my address and they read back my current address.  I ask them where the discs were sent and (puzzled) they read my ancient address back.

"Do we see the problem now?  That hasn't been my address for three years."  "Yes, I'm not sure why we have that address in there."  "Nor am I.  Can we permanently kill it, so it never happens again?  Like not next year?  Again?"  "We don't show any record of that address in our database, so I'm not sure where it came from."  "It came from last year, when it was wrong then, too."

This year, I pre-called, and they read back our current address (yay).  In the many years we've had a seat of SolidWorks, it's been sent to the correct address twice.  Perhaps they should jettison the hidden address databases and stick with a single one?  That way when I watch a one-minute-tip video at the SW web site I don't get calls from other VARs asking me if we'd be interested in SolidWorks.  Dumb.  [/rant]

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Just out of curiosity what is the big need for disks and why is everyone waiting for them?  Not trying to stir the pot just at this day in age it seems silly to waste time waiting for and messing with a disk to install when you can just download at any time and install?

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

The license files for an SNL install of SW2009 have been available for a week or so.  I am going to update our license server this evening with the SW2009 license file.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

sldwkmin,

The downloads are sometimes (not often) corrupt.

It takes way too long to download the full package even if you have a fairly fast connection. Some people only have DSL or even dial-up.

My connection at home is 4x faster than my works connection. A higher speed connection simply is not available at its location.

cheers

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I just received the 2009 shipment.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

me too. Yesterday

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I've had mine since monday! :) I grabbed a media kit from my VAR when he was here on a visit!

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

CBL,

It's normal for a home connection to be far faster than a business connection.  They're set up that way intentionally by the ISP.  Home connections are geared towards download as that's what most people do at home.  Business connections are set up normally with equal download and upload speeds.

Yet my question still remains.  Why does it matter how long it takes to download?  Start it and put it in the background and keep working, or start it at night before you leave and it will be there in the morning.  We're comfortable waiting days for a DVD to reach its destination but we're not willing to wait a few hours for a download?

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Like I said earlier for me there is no logical reason to want the DVD.  It just gives me the warm and fuzzy feeling when I install off the DVD vs downloading the installation files.  It purely a psychological thing for me.  I trust a DVD install more than a down loaded install.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I downloaded 2009 at home when it first came out and have used it without a problem.  Two weeks ago at the '09 rollout the VAR indicated the DVD had files the download did not.  The extra files are for PhotoView 360 which appears to give 91.3%* the result of PhotoWorks with only 10.7% of the effort, plus it is super fast.

Has anyone found the PhotoView 360 available as a download?

Odd Updraft, both the x86 of my 09 install download and my x64 version came with Photoview 360.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

Joe,

That is great news.  Since I received the DVD I haven't gone back to look at the download.

PhotoView 360 looks like a nice fill of the gap of not using PhotoWorks and spending a lot of time to use PhotoWorks.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

sldwkmin,

My home line is faster because I pay for the faster connection. My first connection was dial-up and ridiculously slow (~2KB/s), so when DSL became available in my area I paid for the upgrade to ~60KB/s. The ISP then upgraded the line to give me ~125KB/s. Since then I have paid to upgrade again to a higher package and now get ~500KB/s.

Where I work, a high speed DSL connection is simply not available. Most we can get is ~125KB/s. We were actually paying for a 500KB/s line for quite a while and when we questioned why we weren't getting that, a search at the ISP end found that we are too far from the nearest connection point (or whatever the correct term is).

cheers

My DVD's have arrived.  Shipped to the wrong address (another building) but they have arrived at my company.  Why is it that SW can not get the addresses right??????  How many times does my VAR have to ask for the database to be updated???

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

My DVDs arrived this morning.  I'm in Newtown, PA.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I just received my Solidworks 2009 this morning.  I'll do my upgrade tonight.  Hopefully Vista doesn't get mad at me.

GRF,
It took me 2 years to get my shipping address and phone number corrected (SW & VAR), then my subscription stopped.

did anyone read that 2009 will let you run surfaces with respect to a graph or equation?

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

My VAR said that SWx gave the VAR's a polling and asked how they want to receive media (CD's, DVD's, Thumbdrive, web).

Turned out the majority said "web", and he was under the impression that SWx was going to get rid of all "hard" media starting in 2009.

Given a high speed connection, web makes the most sense to me.  It will always beat hard copies tracking through shipping.

RE: SW2009 DVD's Arrived Yet?

I received my DVD in the mail today.  Call me old-fashioned, but I just feel better having the copy in hand rather than the downloads.  I'll probably install it on my machine tomorrow.

Mine came via FedEx Ground a few minutes ago.  My address is apparently now correct in the great corporate database.  Woot.
