unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

(OP)
I have a sheet metal tube with a circular cut on one end.
such as if you inserted a 3" tube into a 6" tube at an angle of 30 degrees. Off the axis of the 6" pipe. so now the 3" pipe has a cut that follows the profile of the 6" pipe. A typical y intersection.
I now want to take that 3" pipe and unfold it to make a simple tracing pattern. It is currently a sheet metal part.
when i unfold it, the program errors out because it cannot deal with the bevel from the cut.

any ideas or another approach??

Thanks
Gary

RE: unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

Change the bevel so all edge faces are normal or suppress the bevel.

the bevel is the result of the angular cut where it meets the 6" diameter. i cannot be supressed.
I was looking for a way to develop that square face, haven't got there yet..

RE: unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

What release of SWx are you using? Someone should be able to whip up the part pretty quickly.  Can you attach what you have so far?

RE: unfold / flatten sheet metal tube

If you part is already a sheet metal part when the cut is made, you can select "normal cut" in the cut feature options.

The hard way to do this would be to copy the OD surface (using offset), trim the surface, then cut using thicken.
