Excel trigonometric functions error

Excel trigonometric functions error

Excel trigonometric functions error

(OP)
Hi chaps,

Has anyone else noticed that some of the excel (2007) trigonometric functions are wrong!!

Specifically ASIN in this case - try ASin of 0.277047 radians on a calculator and the same in Excel and the results are different...

Any idea if an update exists to correct this?

Jon

RE: Excel trigonometric functions error

Not sure I follow.  What result do you get from Excel?  And how does one calculate the arcsine of an angle?

RE: Excel trigonometric functions error

Is your calculator using degrees or radians?

RE: Excel trigonometric functions error

Don't know about Excel2007, but Excel2003 matches Mathcad's result to 15 decimal places:

Excel --> 0.280719441343584
Mathcad --> 0.280719441343584

Same in Excel 2007

RE: Excel trigonometric functions error

guess what, the Windows calculator also gives 0.280719441343584

Just to mention:  degrees/radians is not relevant to the argument of Asin (it is relevant to expressing the result returned by the function).

My point exactly, Pete.

For some reason seems to be working for me today - i suspect operator error yesterday, it was a long day!!

Sorry meant to say "arcsine of 0.277047 expressed in radians" - as the less anally-retentive among you realised - see above comment re long day!!
